Teaching physical education in schools in the Philippines is a fantastic way for volunteers with a passion for sport and fitness to impact students’ lives. Whether you are on a gap year, career break, or looking for a meaningful experience over a vacation, you can help children and teenagers develop their sporting abilities and increase their self-confidence. You do not need any previous coaching experience to participate, but you will need to have a strong interest in health and fitness.

The aim of this project is to support children at elementary and high schools by increasing their fitness levels, giving them the chance to practice their favourite sport while having fun, and encouraging them to develop a lasting habit for staying active and playing various sports throughout their lives.

Volunteering as a Physical Education Teacher in the Philippines

As a volunteer on this project, you will work in local schools in Bogo City where football, basketball, baseball, lawn tennis, and track & field will be taught. Physical Education has been included in the curriculum of the local schools and is definitely an area in need of volunteer assistance.

In the Philippines, volunteers assist the main teacher during the PE lessons. You may also be asked to teach small groups independently, or be teamed with another volunteer. Our Teach Physical Education placement in Bogo City does not have the resources to employ a permanent PE teacher, so your assistance is vital.

Volunteers at the school also take small groups out of the classroom to do physical activities and play games with them, either independently or with another volunteer. Volunteers should expect to work a minimum of 5 hours per day. There is also the option to combine a Teach Physical Education project with a Care or Teaching project.

Please note that this project is unavailable during the school break, from April to May.

You can join the Teach Physical Education Project in the Philippines for two or three weeks if you do not have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community, please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
