Many schools in Argentina have local English teachers who excel at teaching reading and writing skills to their students. However, they do not always have the time or ability to practice the speaking or listening skills that students need to fully develop their English abilities. As a volunteer on the Teaching Project with Projects Abroad, you will help fill the gaps and improve the language skills of teenagers and adults.

This is a great opportunity to gain practical teaching experience in a classroom setting, and you do not need to be a qualified teacher or have a TEFL/TESOL certificate to participate. You can volunteer as a part of a gap year, a career break, your retirement, or just as a meaningful way to spend your vacation.

Argentina is a country with a well-educated population and schools are eager for students to learn English, the global language of business and commerce. With your skills as an English-speaker, you can have a significant impact in the high schools, language institutes, and universities we are partnered with. All of our placements are based in the city of Cordoba, which is the second largest city in Argentina after Buenos Aires. We also offer placements at schools situated in surrounding areas, like Río Ceballos and La Calera.

Volunteering as a Teacher in Argentina

You will find that teaching at schools, institutes, and universities in Argentina is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Your students will be eager to learn from you, and your skills will be vital to helping them practice and improve their conversational English. They will also benefit from the extra attention and help that you can provide as a volunteer.

As a volunteer teacher, you will need to take the time to prepare and structure your classes. Being prepared will give you confidence and ensure that you and your students get the most out your time in Argentina. You can use authentic materials, games, and songs to engage students.

We have plenty of suggestions for games and activities that will help to stimulate the students' minds and sustain their enthusiasm, and always welcome new ideas. Whatever skills and talents you have, volunteering abroad in Argentina will give you the opportunity to put them to good use. Be imaginative with your teaching to make learning fun and enjoyable for the students and yourself!

If you are fluent in Italian, French, or German, you also have the option of teaching these languages full-time at your placement.

You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Argentina Teaching Management Plan.

Volunteering at a Teaching Placement in Argentina

Projects Abroad Teaching volunteer walks students through an activity in Cordoba, Argentina.

Schools in Argentina have their main vacation period from the start of December to the end of February, with a shorter break in July. If you choose to volunteer as a teacher in Argentina during these times, you will be able to teach at a summer school.

Throughout your placement, you will be located near other volunteers and will live with a local host family. This is a wonderful way to become a part of the local community and will give you an insight into Argentinean life.

The impact you have on the lives of your students will be obvious and long lasting, but you will also be part of a much wider international volunteer network, which is making a positive contribution to the communities in which we work.

You can join the Teaching Project in Argentina from three weeks if you do not have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
