If you are interested in coaching Physical Education in schools abroad, Peru is a great place to volunteer with Projects Abroad. Physical Education is extremely popular in Cusco, and many children and teenagers are eager to improve their skills.

You could teach Physical Education, or focus on a variety of after-school sports including soccer, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, ping pong, cycling, and swimming. The project you participate in will depend on your level of experience in a particular sport.

If you’re an experienced soccer coach you can choose to coach higher level teams.

You can be a sports coach volunteer without any previous coaching experience Volunteers of all ages are welcome, whether you are a gap year student, career breaker, retiree, or simply seeking a meaningful vacation experience. All we ask is a passion for sports and a commitment to helping others improve their athletic skills.

Volunteering as a Physical Education Teacher in Peru

Physical Education volunteers usually work Monday to Friday, 8am to 2pm. The Teach Physical Education project will commence in the first week of March and run until the end of November. The projects will be closed for a vacation from the end of July until the second week of August.

During your time in Peru, you will live with a local host family who will introduce you to daily Peruvian life and culture. When you are not working, you can use your free time to explore your beautiful surroundings and socialize with the friendly Projects Abroad volunteer community.

You can also combine your placement with teaching English or helping care for children at a local kindergarten. Just let us know where your interests lie once you have applied and we will match you to a suitable school.

Emily Bourn
All in all, my experience here has been great. I look forward to going to work every day. The support that Projects Abroad provides me is unbeatable. I have received many phone calls, as well as home visits from the supervisors. They make sure that I am feeling healthy, comfortable, and enjoying my work. If there were ever any issues, Projects Abroad would take care of the situation immediately. I am very grateful to have their support throughout my journey here. Read more...

You can join a Physical Education project in Peru for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.

While you’re in Peru, you might also consider joining a 1 week Conservation & Environment Project. For more information, please visit our Rainforest Conservation & Environment Project in Peru page. Our Combinations Page explains how you can combine not only projects, but also destinations.
