The sport program is a great opportunity for local children to develop their fitness, have fun with other children, and will encourage them to continue working on their sporting skills while at school, or join a school sports teams if they haven’t yet done so.

The sports program is four weeks long, and will run from July 16th 2018 to August 10th 2018 and is open to all children in the local community between 5 and 12 years old.

Your Role on the Community Sports Project in Belize

On the Community Sports Project in Belize volunteers encourage local children to participate and have fun

In Belize, the San Pedro town council has an entire department dedicated to encouraging youth participation in sports. You will contribute to achieving these goals on this project.

Every week, coaches and volunteers will focus on a different sport, including:

  • Beach soccer
  • Swimming
  • Martial arts
  • Softball

In the mornings you will prepare afternoon activities and work with various coaches trained in each of the sports. Your input and knowledge will be valuable to the team, as you look to get as many children as possible involved.

Between 2pm and 4pm, you will assist the coaches as they teach that week’s sport to the children You will help with demonstration on how to play, encourage participation, oversee their games and activities, and ensure that they are having fun.

The day will not end with the game, but rather with educational awareness. On the program, you will help organize beach clean-ups to teach the children about the importance of keeping the oceans clean.

After the four weeks of the program, there will be a ceremony to thank all volunteers, staff, and children who participated, and also to celebrate National Youth Day in Belize. This evening will end with a movie and snacks in the local park.
