Nursing interns observe doctors in a hospital in Morocco

As a Nursing intern with Projects Abroad in Morocco you will have the opportunity to work in a number of departments in one of our partner hospitals or clinics in Rabat, the capital city. Where you work will depend upon your qualifications and experience, as well as the needs of the facility. Options include dermatology, gynaecology, paediatrics and surgery.

Your role as an intern will be to shadow qualified members of staff and your supervising doctor or nurse. By observing the doctors and nurses, you can experience a variety medical conditions and treatments. If you show enthusiasm, demonstrate your skills, develop a good relationship with the medical staff, you may be able to gain the trust required to be given more responsibility.

Interning Abroad as a Nurse in Morocco with Projects Abroad

Your workday will normally be from 8am to 4pm working at the hospital with your supervisor. Sometimes it will be beneficial to spend time working one-on-one with a patient with the supervision of a nurse. If you have past medical experience or particular preferences about where you work please let us know when you apply.

You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Morocco Medicine & Healthcare Management Plan.

Overall I enjoyed my placement and loved working with all the pediatric nurses as they were very welcoming. My mentor was excellent and guided me all the way. The pediatric nurses always asked me questions about nursing back home and told me how nursing was in Morocco. Read more...

In your free time, you can get to know the other Projects Abroad volunteers and locals and take advantage of the plenty of travel opportunities. You can also use the opportunity of living with a local host family to practice your French or Arabic skills while enjoying being welcomed into a warm Moroccan home.

In order to participate in a Nursing internship in Morocco you need to have completed a minimum of one year of a related degree and speak an intermediate level of French or Arabic.

Nursing internships in Morocco are available for shorter periods than 4 weeks. While you will be able to gain valuable medical experience on a short-term trip, we recommend staying for a longer period to allow yourself more time to get to know the local medical system, see more of a variety of conditions and procedures, and develop stronger relationships with local medical staff.

Volunteers seeking a different cultural experience have the option of participating on a more unique project for one week at the end of their project.
