Project Info

Interning abroad on one of our dental internships is a fantastic way to gain practical international experience in dentistry. Whether you are hoping to get into dental school, a trained professional looking to gain some dental work experience abroad, or somewhere in between, you will have a role to play in one of the hospitals and clinics we work with. Your dentistry internship abroad is tailored, whenever possible, to both your level of experience your interests.

Intern in Dentistry Abroad

Living in a developing country, you will witness first hand the impact of poverty on dental health. Dentists struggle to convey messages about the very basics of oral hygiene. This lack of education, combined with a lack of financial resources, means that many cases you see will be considerably further advanced than those you are likely to encounter in your home country.

Around the world we work in a wide variety of dental settings, from large city hospitals to small dental clinics. Wherever you go and whatever size establishment you intern with, you will experience something very different from what you are used to. You will learn a lot and come back with fantastic memories of far more than just your dentistry experience.

International Dental Experience

On the first day of your dental internship, you will meet your supervisor with a local Projects Abroad staff member and create a work schedule. It is very important that you stick to your hours or give plenty of advanced notice if you wish to change them because from that moment on you will be part of a team. As with any employee, your supervisor will be eager to know your skills and level of experience, so the work you find yourself doing will be strongly influenced by this.

Of course, a Projects Abroad dental internship is not just about work. Once you finish for the day there are usually plenty of other volunteers around to meet up with, and our staff will arrange regular social events for you to join in with if you wish.

Elective Students

If you are a dental student planning to do an elective please visit our Medical Electives page.

At most of our Dentistry Projects, you will need language skills and/or a certain level of experience before you can join. If this is the case, the specific project page will tell you. For some programs, we also require you to be above the age of 18. Please note that you need to be a minimum of 18 years old to join projects in Bolivia, Jamaica, and Mexico.

If you are under 18 years of age, we recommend taking a look at our Medicine & Healthcare High School Specials for teenagers.
