If you are interested in traveling with purpose over the summer, join Projects Abroad on the Care & Community volunteer program in Peru. Your help is needed in our partner care centres to help local supervisors and teachers stimulate, encourage, and offer daily support to Peruvian children.
As a volunteer, you will provide assistance in classroom environments and create educational materials that can be used by the care centre after you have returned home. Your role will vary daily and can include anything from teaching the children good hygiene and playing educational and creative games.
This program also includes visits to a home for the elderly. Here, you will help care for Peruvian senior citizens while also providing them with company.
You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Peru Care Management Plan.
During your time in Peru, you will take part in Spanish classes at the start of your trip that will help you connect more easily with the children, your host family, and other locals in the community. When you are not volunteering or taking a Spanish class, you will be with your host family and the other volunteers. You will have the chance to enjoy delicious local cuisine prepared by the host family during the week, and over weekends, you will sample and enjoy the wide range of flavors Peru has to offer in restaurants.
Peru boasts many natural and archeological wonders, including beautiful cathedrals. Social activities will be arranged for you and the other volunteers during the week and weekends will be filled with sightseeing. Vibrant markets scattered throughout the Sacred Valley, the Aguas Calientes hot springs, and the Machu Picchu site are just some of the places you can visit!
