If you are a high school student interested in learning more about the field of dentistry, the Projects Abroad Dentistry Project in Sri Lanka is a great way to gain meaningful experience over the summer. The project is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s largest city, where you will spend time in the dentistry department of a local hospital.

You and your fellow volunteers will be under the supervision of a Projects Abroad Coordinator during your time at the hospital. You will also have the opportunity to visit a hospital specializing in traditional Ayurvedic medicine during your trip.

Over the course of the project, you will attend a fascinating workshop on medical practices in Sri Lanka, and participate in outreach activities during a two-day medical camp in a local community and an orphanage.

When you are not volunteering at the hospital or participating in workshops and outreaches, our local staff will organize various social and cultural activities for your group. Over the weekend, we will arrange a trip to Kandy, Sri Lanka’s cultural capital, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

This project is also available as a 3-week program on select dates. If you stay longer, you will be able to spend more time at your placement and with your fellow volunteers. You will also be taken on more weekend trips, allowing you to experience more of the local culture and do more sightseeing.
