Cebuano Language Course in the Philippines

Projects Abroad gives volunteers the opportunity to gain a unique insight into the fascinating Filipino culture by taking part in a Cebuano language course. Learning a local language allows you to immerse yourself fully in the culture and you will enjoy communicating with a diverse range of people. Anyone can learn Cebuano, even while you are volunteering on other projects in the Philippines.

Cebuano (also referred to as Binisaya) is spoken by 20 million people in the Philippines mostly in the Central Visayas region, which includes Cebu Province. It is the most widely spoken of the languages within the so-named Bisayan subgroup and is closely related to other Filipino languages.

Volunteers learning Cebuano in the Philippines with Projects Abroad will take part in an intensive course which lasts from two weeks upwards. Your lessons will be taught by a qualified local language teacher and are tailored to your personal level. These lessons can also be adapted to your interests.

As a volunteer in the Philippines, you will be welcomed into the home of a Filipino family. Your host family will teach you about Filipino culture and traditions, and you will learn Cebuano quickly when you can practice what you’ve learnt with them each day.

You also have the option of combining your Cebuano language course with another Projects Abroad placement in the Philippines. Volunteers and interns doing projects in the Philippines can undertake a short 14-hour or 30-hour course in Cebuano alongside their project. If you are volunteering in the Philippines for at least twelve weeks you could complete a 60-hour Cebuano language course alongside your volunteer placement. These prices are in addition to your main project price.
