Projects Abroad offers high school students with an interest in medicine the chance to volunteer abroad in Cambodia and learn about public health in a developing country. Outreach work is the major focus of the project and you will be able to gain practical medical skills while giving back to those living in impoverished communities.
In Cambodia, you will be based in Phnom Penh, where you will work alongside the Projects Abroad Coordinator, as well as a medical intern. Most of your time will be spent participating in outreach activities and helping to provide public health education in schools and the local community.
During your placement, you will also visit a public hospital in Phnom Penh, a health centre in the community, and have the chance to learn about traditional Khmer medicine. You are encouraged to take notes and ask questions so that you can make the most of your time abroad and enhance your medical knowledge as much as possible.
During your time in Cambodia, you will stay in either a guesthouse or hotel with other volunteers.
No trip to Cambodia is complete without visiting the magnificent temples of Angkor Wat. Over the weekend, you will travel with the other volunteers and our local staff and visit several of the main temple sites.
This project is also available as a 4-week program on select dates. If you stay longer, you will be able to spend more time at your placement and with your fellow volunteers. You will also be taken on more weekend trips, allowing you to experience more of the local culture and do more sightseeing.
