Peru Animal Rescue Center Receives Government Praise
The Peru Conservation project continues to go from strength to strength. Our animal rescue center, which forms a large part of the conservation work at the Taricaya Lodge, (our base in the Amazon jungle), has recently been recognized as the best and most effective animal rescue center in the country by the Peruvian government.
Following this recognition, later this month the conservation project will be receiving animals from the Wachipa Zoo in Lima which is the largest and best zoo in Peru. The government has decided that we shall receive some small and larger species of monkeys, small cats and some parrots that had made it from Puerto Maldonado to the capital for sale and so had been placed in the zoo for want of a better alternative.
Now they are coming to us for release back into the wild. Peru Conservation Director, Stuart Timson comments ‘It is great to have our hard work rewarded like this and hopefully this precedent will pave the way for the future.’
