Wedding Celebrations for Sri Lanka Staff and Volunteers
Assistant Manager, Catherine Stidston tells us how the volunteers in Sri Lanka had the chance to experience a traditional Sri Lankan wedding.
‘Last month the sister of Sri Lanka staff member, Gishan got married. His younger sister, Dulanthi married Ravindra and all Projects Abroad staff and volunteers were invited along to participate in their special day.
Volunteers made a special effort and rocked up half dressed in saris and sarongs. We girls struggled a little with dressing ourselves but luckily there were plenty of experts on hand at the wedding to sort us out. Everyone looked fantastic.
We attended the ceremony at a beautiful church in Wennappuwa. Although it was conducted in Sinhala, we got the gist of what was happening and the bride looked absolutely stunning.
Following the formalities, we headed to the reception at a beautiful beachside hotel where guests were greeted by traditional Kandyan drummers and a slice of wedding cake! Following the speeches, the Johnny Walker started to flow, we tucked into a fantastic feast and the guests began to boogie on the dance floor.
Everyone had an excellent time and we were truly grateful to have been a part of such a wonderful day.’
