Volunteers in Bolivia set up newspaper

Scott Liddle who is on his gap year in Cochabamba came up with the idea of the students putting together a newspaper to practice their English. The first edition of "The Cocha Banner" has just come out. It is hoped to be able to make this a regular publication. The second edition is due out in June. Scott has even started to attract advertisers to cover the cost of producing the newspaper.

The Cocha Banner

Volunteers working in Cochabamba are teaching in the department of Linguistics. Every student that attends university in Bolivia has to study English. Projects Abroad assists by providing volunteers to help with this. In return volunteers receive free Spanish lessons in the afternoons.

The newspaper is a real way that students can practice their English and see themselves in print. There have been no problems in getting articles from the students who are all keen to see their name in lights.
