Care & Community in South Africa brings colour to crèches

Helping at lunchtime

Three volunteers from Germany have recently made a real difference to the surroundings of children who attend crèches in and around Vaalwater in South Africa.

Simone Grill, Yvonne Stock and Claudia Diemer painted two crèches during their Care & Community placement - not only improving the paintwork, but also brightening up the kitchen of one with pictures of fruit, vegetables and various animals.

The three girls were in South Africa over Christmas and also found time to organise ten Christmas parties for crèches in the area. They baked cookies and made lots of 'sweetie bags', then organised all sorts of games for the children to take part in.

The girls said, "We really enjoyed the time with the kids and it was a unique experience for us! Our host family have been so kind to us and we've made lots of new friends. It was absolutely worthwhile to spend the past months in Vaalwater - we've had a great time and so have the children!"
