Projects Abroad commits to a future without orphanages


We're proud to announce that we've committed to withdrawing our volunteers from orphanages by the end of 2017, instead focusing our resources and volunteers on community-based projects. In partnership with the ReThink Orphanages Network, we will help ensure that children get to grow up in families, not institutions, as the observation of our project results has revealed that this produces the most positive impact for communities.

Typhoon survivor receives new home in the Philippines


Nearly four years after surviving Typhoon Haiyan that struck the Philippines in 2013, a local woman was presented the key to her new home built by our volunteers. Building volunteers from countries around the world combined their efforts to start and complete the house this year.

Projects Abroad celebrates 25th Anniversary


We are 25 years old! Who would have thought that in two-and-a-half decades we could send over 100,000 volunteers from all around the world on service trips to as many as 38 countries?

Opening doors to educational resources in Ghana and Tanzania


Volunteer efforts in Ghana and Tanzania have improved access to educational resources for some. In Ghana, volunteers built seven tables to be used at a weekly reading class for soccer players. Children who attend can now comfortably practice their basic writing skills as well. In Tanzania, our volunteers had 42 children successfully registered at a local school.

Projects buzzing as we hit busiest time of the year


Our busiest time of the year is in full swing with more than 3,000 volunteers from around the world currently taking part on hundreds of projects across the globe. As the biggest volunteer organization in the world, we're excited that our projects are currently at the height of their impact.

New dates released for Autumn & 2018 group volunteer trips


We have released new dates for our 19+ Specials and Grown-Up Special group trips! If you're 19 years or older, you can still sign up for a group trip this Summer, or choose one of our new dates in Autumn or 2018. Volunteers older than 50 can also start planning ahead for our newly released 2018 dates for grown-up group trips.

Measuring our Impact in 2016


Our 2016 Global Impact Report is hot off the press, with encouraging results. Some notable achievements include: 206 local teachers received training in Peru; 14,000 meals provided to at-risk youths in South Africa; More than 17 tons of garbage collected worldwide; More than 500 poaching snares removed in Botswana & Kenya; 25,152 hours of free legal services were provided & 235 cases closed.

Projects Abroad volunteers prepare new home for rescued spectacled bear


Dominga, an endangered spectacled bear rescued from a zoo in Peru, has found a new home prepared by our volunteers at the Taricaya Ecological Reserve. Dominga had lost most of her hair caused by severe stress from living in a small enclosure for many years.

This year our Shark Conservation Project in Fiji turns three! If you have a passion for marine wildlife, join us and contribute to long-term efforts to protect sharks and preserve vital marine eco-systems. During your stay, you receive a PADI Open Water diving certification.

New group volunteer trips launching in 2017


We are thrilled to announce to announce that this summer we will be launching several new group volunteer trips: 19+ Specials! Anyone aged 19 and older can join these organized trips and participate in worthwhile volunteer work. You can choose to volunteer in several countries, such as Cambodia, Nepal, and the Philippines, working in the areas of child care or public health.
