The Role

The role of the Nutrition Project Manager is to work with international volunteers to raise awareness, educate and support the needs of underprivileged communities in Cape Town, South Africa. By training, coordinating, supervising and assisting volunteers, this role is crucial in order to run a meaningful community nutrition project. The nature of the position entails frequent, timely and effective communication with staff, project partners and volunteers. The Nutrition Project Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the Nutrition Project.

Job duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct project inductions
  • Plan and run training programs in dietetics and nutrition.
  • Assist interns in their research / university papers.
  • Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and prevalence of NCD’s to develop and implement dietary plans.
  • Counsel individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life.
  • Develop curriculum and prepare manuals, visual aids, course outlines, and other materials used in teaching.
  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate dietary, nutritional, and epidemiological research.
  • Write research reports and other publications to document and communicate research findings.
  • Coordinate recipe development and develop new menus for low-income households.
  • Prepare monthly schedules for the volunteers and coordinate their activities
  • Liaise with Projects Abroad staff, locally and internationally, and update the database as necessary

You should:

  • Be a South African citizen or hold a valid work permit
  • Be a registered Dietitian with a valid Bachelor's degree in Dietetics
  • Hold a driver's license
  • Have excellent organisational skills – you'll need to be thorough and focused in planning your workload and the workload of volunteers.
  • Excellent communication and people skills - you’ll need to interact and build relationships with volunteers from all different ages, countries and backgrounds.
  • Willing to help out with all tasks including those that do not fall under job description.
  • Be willing to take public transport if needed
  • Have the ability to take initiative, make independent judgements/decisions.
  • Have well-developed research skills, excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Have the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Have your own car (prefereble - not compulsory)

You will be employed on a permanent contract, subject to a three-month probationary period. An offer of employment is dependent upon receipt of satisfactory references and personal interview.

The salary range is 15-17K per month. The exact final salary depends upon your experience and will be discussed with you during the interview process.
